José Maestas is a comedian, writer, actor and 2026 FIFA Peace Prize recipient. He was born and raised, on a small farm, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. There he learned the value of hard work and, contrary to popular belief, that pollos are not in fact loco. From a young age, José was infatuated with the comedians of Saturday Night Live and 90's movies. Growing up Chicano shaped his sense of humor, love of family, and his perspective of life and culture in the United States. On stage, he is known for his energetic brand of physical comedy, impressions, and characters.
José is the Season 5 winner of NBC/Nosostros, Ya Tu Sabes monologue competition for writing the short film entitled, The Comedian.
As a stand up, he can regularly be seen at the Hollywood Improv and a staple at L.A's hottest underground show Pupusas and Punchlines. He has twice been awarded “Best in Show” at the Burbank Comedy Festival.
In 2025, he was selected into the prestigious, SLO comedy festival.
He starred in the theater production of 638, which won the Playwright award at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
He is making his feature film debut in the upcoming, Bound for Glory, alongside Saturday Night Live legend Chris Kattan.
The Comedian, written by José, follows a performer attempting to process the love he feels onstage juxtaposed with the deafening silence of solitude.
It is the 2025 winner of Ya Tu Sabes, a short film competition presented by Nosotros and NBC Launch.
Enjoy!
